As you may recall, there was an awful lot to see at this year's 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Upcoming models, concept designs and cutting-edge technologies were by no means in short supply, and the offerings from our favorite automaker here at Lithia Kia of Anchorage was certainly no exception.
Of all the attention-grabbing four-wheelers they brought to the stage, few got us talking quite like the Kia GT. It was a four-door coupe with an incredibly sleek, almost futuristic design scheme that was powered by none other than a 3.3-liter direct-injected turbo-V6 engine. As a result, it was reported to crank out 395 horsepower, and from that point forward, we were in love.
Unfortunately, we had to restrain ourselves from getting too excited since we've been burned before by concepts that never made their way to production. But today, dear readers, the automotive gods have shone down upon us.
"We have plans to build a GT," says Soon-Nam Lee, vice president of Overseas Marketing at Kia. "We spoke about it at our global marketing conference in Singapore. We'll be mainly targeting the end of 2016 or early 2017."1
Needless to say, the joy is flat-out palpable over here. Unfortunately, we've still got a while to wait and word has it that the GT's V6 will be getting the ax. Nevertheless, we'll keep counting down the days.
Until then, feel free to do as we do and tide yourself over with a good old-fashioned test drive in the super-sleek 2014 Kia Forte at our dealership here in Anchorage, AK. Because if all goes according to plan, the future of our lineup has never looked brighter.
