Don't ignore your brakes! Although they are seldom thought about, a lot is riding on them. And just like your oil has to be changed, your brakes need to be regularly serviced. Not as often, but still every 12,000 miles or if it's been over a year since they've last been checked. Don't wait until your car is squealing, grinding, or smells funky.
Other telltale signs are if your vehicle pulls to the side when you apply the brake, if you need more time to stop, or if your brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. These are all signs that you don't want to see. But if you do-don't ignore the problem-take your vehicle in to get it serviced. If you take care of it in timely manner, you can avoid a much worse problem down the road. Nobody wants to lose their brakes on a hill.
